work life

We believe that focus should be on individual support, based on professional standards.

In Denmark, the working life means a lot for how we identify ourselves both in private life and professionally, and for feeling included in a community.

Politically, there is an increased focus on the fact that people with disabilities should be part of the labour market.
Basically, we believe that this is positive for a lot of people.

However, we want a recognition of the fact that people with disabilities cannot be pushed through economic incentives, and that focus should instead be on individual support, based on professional standards.

Furthermore, focus should be on ‘job-matching’ to a much larger extent, as many people with disabilities do not have an extensive résumé, a large network or experience from student jobs, hence requiring a more guided effort.

At the same time, we emphasise the difference between employment policy and social policy. A working life should be meaningful, and there has to be a general recognition of the fact that there are people, who – because they have a disability – cannot work.

In these situations, it is important not to push through with an unrealistic aim, but instead focus on supporting these people in obtaining a good life through other activities than work.
