Mennesker med handicap nævnes ikke specifikt i de oprindelige 2015-mål, men i en resolution fra Third Committee den 6. november, opfordrer FN til at mennesker med handicap fremover inkluderes og vil arbejde for at mennesker med handicap er i fokus på næste septembers topmøde om 2015-målene. På FN’s internationale dag for mennesker med handicap, den 3. december, skrev FN bl.a.: ’Experience shows that when persons with disabilities are empowered to participate and lead the process of development, the entire community opens up. Their involvement creates opportunities for everyone – with or without a disability. The message for the MDGs (2015-målene, red.) is clear: putting persons with disabilities and their communities at the heart of our effort is a proven way to advance the development agenda.’
