After the completion of a successful pilot project in Honduras financed by the Project Advice and Training Centre (PATC), DHF has initiated an extensive project in Honduras, which is a common project with Nicaragua. The project is a four-year project with a budget of 22 million Danish kroner financed by Danida. DHF has a small project office in the capital, Tegucigalpa, which is subordinated the office in Nicaragua. The office employs two Hondurans.
For the moment we collaborate with three organisations of PWD’s and an umbrella organisation, but the goal is to obtain between six and eight permanent cooperation partners. The name of the project is UNIDAD which means “unity” and in the first place, the goal is to strengthen the organisations administratively and organisationally with a view to strengthen the ability of the organisations to work for the rights of PWD’s. The goal of the project is to increase the number of members and local divisions.
Our Spanish web page in Nicaragua is www.discapacidad.ca.
Elements of the work in Honduras
- Each collaboration partner has a project component, which they formulate and execute individually.
- A common training unit should be established, which trains local leaders and active members in different issues of importance for the construction of strong organisations.
- A flexible pool exists, i.e. money that the organisations can apply for to use for small-scale projects, which was not anticipated by the beginning of the project. The funds in this pool are especially intended for organisations, which have not been part of the project since the beginning.
- A pool of money exists to do activities in collaboration between DHF and the organisations.
As part of the project structure, there has been established a joint meeting for collaboration partners which chooses the members for the project board, discusses the documents and guidelines for the project, and distributes grants to projects from the common flexible pool. As mentioned, there is also a project board, which distributes grants from the flexible pool, participates in supervision of the project and approves the development reports from the organisations.
